Admission Process Undergraduate Program

Info day at Trier University of Applied Sciences

Come to our annual information day at Trier University of Applied Sciences. Together with the Campus Gestaltung, the architecture department will be presenting itself. You will have the chance to meet students and staff. We will give you an insight into the work produced as part of the architecture degree course and answer any questions you may have. The exact date will be communicated in good time via the Campus Gestaltung website.

Admission

The application deadline for all applicants with German school-leaving certificates for the winter semester 2024/2025 begins in May 2024. In addition to the regular application as described above, all applicants must complete a short aptitude test in the form of a digital submission. More detailed information on the procedure and submission can be found in the task. The task can be downloaded here.

The application deadline for all applicants with foreign educational certificates for the winter semester 2024/2025 at Uni-Assist begins in May 2024. Graduates of preparatory colleges can apply directly via the university's applicant portal.

Internship I

From the start of the winter semester 2024/25: Proof of practical work (internship) as a full-time position (40 hours per week) of 12 weeks must be provided; at least 6 weeks of this must be completed before the start of your studies. The remaining weeks must be completed by the start of the 3rd Bachelor semester. Relevant practical training and work experience will be taken into account.

The practical work must take place in German or Luxembourg companies that are approved for training by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Chamber of Crafts or the Chamber of Architects. The majority of the internship (8 - 12 weeks) takes place in companies in the main construction industry: Earthwork, masonry or concrete work, carpentry and other building trades such as carpentry, locksmithing and trades related to technical building equipment. The remaining part (max. 4 weeks) can be completed in planning offices of freelance architects and landscape architects or the public sector, the building trade and industry under the supervision of an architect registered with the Chamber of Architects. The internship should be completed in as many consecutive periods as possible. Sections lasting less than two weeks will not be recognized. Working hours of more than two days lost due to illness must be made up.

The following points should be covered in full or in part: Methods and skills of planning and design with the associated presentation techniques, preparation of simple plans and working documents, implementation of planning in reality, cooperation in construction site preparation, measurement, invoicing, surveying, construction and construction drawings. The above-mentioned points must all be documented in an internship certificate. We recommend that you complete most of the internship before starting your studies. The original hard copy of the certificate must be submitted to the secretary's office within 4 weeks of completing the internship. The certificate must be issued by the company, including letterhead, number of hours per week, task description and company stamp / stamp of the architecture firm, etc.

In addition, a short report must be submitted for each internship! The intern must prepare a short report summarizing each internship (max. 2 pages). The report is to be submitted as defined in Annex 4, §7 of the examination regulations. The report must be submitted to the secretary's office together with the internship certificate. Admission Process Graduate Program

Portfolio Inspection and Interview

Internal students with an average grade of at least 2.0 or better must submit a certified copy of their Bachelor's or Diploma degree certificate or a current overview of the university's grades as well as a personal letter of motivation - "Letter of Intent" - of max. 2 A4 pages.

Internal students with an average grade of less than 2.0 are examined by an admissions committee and, in addition to their diploma and letter of motivation, submit a portfolio of selected papers from their previous studies in A4 or A3 format. Further qualifications must be proven by work samples from studies and practical periods, completed projects, drafts, subject-related work, etc.

In any case, external students have to submit a certified copy of their Bachelor's or Diploma degree certificate with an overview of grades and the average grade, a letter of motivation and a portfolio of previous study-related and postgraduate work.

You are also welcome to personally hand in or submit the documents in the field of architecture (secretariat) or send them by post.

You will be informed individually about the further procedure and the date for any admission interview.

Admission

Our program always starts for the winter semester. 

  • Portfolio submission deadline for external students: 15.07.2024, 12 noon
  • Submission of letters of motivation and portfolios for internal students with a grade point average below 2.0: 15.07.2024, 12 noon

Internship II

Proof of practical work (internship) as a full-time position (40 hours per week) of 12 weeks must be provided; at least 6 weeks of this must be completed before the start of the course. The remaining weeks must be completed by the end of the 2nd Master's semester. Relevant practical work experience will be recognized after consultation. The activity can only be accepted as an internship in consecutive sections of at least 2 weeks.

The areas of work during the pre-study internship II should correspond to the following framework plan: The internship is to be completed in planning offices of freelance architects, urban planners, landscape architects or offices based here with specializations in the field of visualization / media and CAAD under the supervision of an architect registered with the Chamber of Architects. 

The following points should be covered: Methods and skills of planning and design with the associated presentation methods and presentation techniques, preparation of complex plans and working documents and the monitoring of the entire construction process of a project.
The above-mentioned points must all be documented in an internship certificate. We recommend that you complete most of the internship before starting your studies. The original hard copy of the certificate must be submitted to the office within 4 weeks of completing the internship. The certificate must be issued by the company, including letterhead, number of hours per week, description of tasks, stamp of the Chamber of Architects and company stamp, etc. Working hours of more than two days lost due to illness must be made up.
